Nero/Alessandro Neretti

MASQUERADE

May 16th – August 2nd 2025

Atipografia presents MASQUERADE, a solo exhibition by Nero/Alessandro Neretti (Faenza, 1980), open to the public from Friday 16 May to Saturday 2 August 2025 in the gallery's spaces in Arzignano, in the province of Vicenza. A critical text written by Milovan Farronato accompanies the exhibition.

The exhibition presents a nucleus of works resulting from a residency that the artist Nero/Alessandro Neretti held at Espace Médina in Dakar, Senegal, run by the artist Moussa Traoré. The residency, created in collaboration with Viafarini, a well-known Milanese exhibition space dedicated to experimentation, allowed the artist to totally immerse himself in the territory and the social fabric for the realisation of a cycle of unpublished works.

The title MASQUERADE originates in relation to the artist's work, which is constantly in dialogue between past and present, tradition and the contemporary. The artist interweaves imagination and autobiographical history to explore his surroundings through images laden with symbolic meaning that reflect his identity and his perceptions of Senegalese culture and contemporaneity: in fact, the works subtend a socio-economic reading of the environment in which Nero/Alessandro Neretti immerses himself. The fil rouge of MASQUERADE is identified in the artist's search for a way of representing Dakar as it really is today, starting precisely from the relationship between contemporaneity and tradition.
